What Is a Coral Reef?
A coral reef is an underwater habitat built by tiny coral animals. Reefs grow slowly over many years and provide homes for fish, crabs, and sea turtles.

Why Reefs Matter
Coral reefs protect coastlines by helping break strong waves before they reach the shore. Reefs also support animals that people depend on for food and tourism.
