* Learning Goal
Read both texts. Think about what each author wants the reader to know, feel, or do. This is practice set 7 of 10.
1 Text A
Notice how the author presents facts and useful information.
Text A: Animal Shelter Event
The Pinewood Animal Shelter will hold an adoption fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can meet dogs, cats, and rabbits that are ready for new homes. Information booths will offer tips on pet care, feeding, and training.
The shelter currently houses 45 animals. Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions, and adoption fees will be reduced for the day.
2 Text B
Notice how the author tries to persuade the reader.
Text B: Find a New Best Friend
Behind every kennel door at the Pinewood Shelter is an animal hoping for a family. These pets did not choose to end up here, but you can choose to give one of them a second chance.
Visit the adoption fair this Saturday. Whether you take home a furry friend or simply learn how to help, your presence makes a difference for animals who need it most.
