* Learning Goal
Read both texts. Think about what each author wants the reader to know, feel, or do. This is practice set 5 of 10.
1 Text A
Notice how the author presents facts and useful information.
Text A: Community Garden Plan
Neighbors and volunteers will build raised beds beside the recreation center this spring. The town council approved the plan after a survey showed that 78 percent of residents supported the idea.
Each raised bed will be four feet wide and eight feet long. Families can sign up for a plot and grow vegetables, herbs, or flowers. A tool shed and watering station will be installed by mid-April.
2 Text B
Notice how the author tries to persuade the reader.
Text B: Grow With the Garden Team
Imagine walking to the rec center and picking fresh tomatoes that you helped plant yourself. A community garden is not just about food — it brings neighbors together, teaches kids where meals come from, and turns an empty lot into something beautiful.
Volunteer now and help build a space that feeds families and brightens the entire neighborhood.
