* Learning Goal
Read both texts. Think about what each author wants the reader to know, feel, or do. This is practice set 3 of 10.
1 Text A
Notice how the author presents facts and useful information.
Text A: Bike Safety Fair

The city will host a free bike safety fair at Riverside Elementary on October 12. The event will include helmet fittings, bike inspections, and an obstacle course designed to practice turning and stopping safely.

Officers from the traffic safety team will demonstrate hand signals and explain road rules. Every student who completes the course will receive a reflective sticker for their bike.
2 Text B
Notice how the author tries to persuade the reader.
Text B: Ride Smart With Us

Did you know that wearing a helmet reduces the risk of head injuries by more than half? That single fact should be enough to get every rider to buckle up before pedaling down the street.

Come to the Bike Safety Fair and learn skills that could protect you every single day. Bring your bike, bring a friend, and let's make our neighborhood safer for everyone on two wheels.
3 Compare and Explain
Use both texts to support your answers.

1. What is the author's purpose in Text A?

2. What is the author's purpose in Text B?

3. Which text is more persuasive, and what details make it persuasive?

4. If you wanted simple facts, which text would be more useful? Why?
