Why Wetlands Help
Wetlands are places where land and water meet. Marshes, swamps, and bogs are all types of wetlands. These areas may look muddy, but they are full of life.
Wetlands act like natural sponges by soaking up extra rainwater. This can lower flooding in nearby areas. Wetlands also help clean water by trapping dirt and other materials.
Many birds, frogs, fish, and insects depend on wetlands. When wetlands are damaged, entire food webs can change. Protecting them helps many kinds of living things.
