1 First Person vs. Third Person

👁️ Stories can be told from different points of view. Learn the difference!

First Person (I, me, my): The character tells their own story. "I went to the park."

Third Person (he, she, they): A narrator tells the story about someone else. "She went to the park."

2 Same Story, Different Views

📖 Read the same event told from two different points of view.

Version A (First Person):
I stared at my blank canvas, unsure where to even begin. My teacher told me to just paint what I was feeling instead of what I saw. By the end of class, I had a swirl of blues and yellows I actually liked.

Version B (Third Person):
Mateo stared at his blank canvas, unsure where to even begin. His teacher told him to just paint what he was feeling instead of what he saw. By the end of class, he had a swirl of blues and yellows he actually liked.

3 Whose Point of View?

4 Change the Point of View

✍️ Rewrite this third-person passage in FIRST person (use "I" and "my").

Third Person: Kenji spotted a younger student who couldn't reach the water fountain button. He offered to press it for her without being asked. She thanked him and told her teacher how kind he had been. Kenji shrugged and said it was no big deal, but he felt happy the rest of the day.
