1 Dialogue Rules

💬 Dialogue is when characters talk. Learn the rules!

Rule 1: Put quotation marks " " around the exact words someone says.

Rule 2: Start the spoken words with a capital letter.

Rule 3: Put punctuation (. ! ?) INSIDE the quotation marks.

Rule 4: Tell who is speaking (said, asked, yelled, whispered).

Is the dialogue written correctly? Write ✓ or ✗.

2 Add Quotation Marks

3 Speaking Verbs

🗣️ Instead of always using "said," try more interesting speaking verbs! Replace "said" with a better word.

4 Write a Conversation

✍️ Write a conversation between two characters. Use at least 4 lines of dialogue with correct quotation marks!
