1 What Are Sources?
📚 A source is where you find information. Different sources are good for different things.

📖 Book · 📰 Magazine/Newspaper · 🌐 Website · 👩‍🏫 Expert/Interview · 📕 Encyclopedia

Books and encyclopedias give reliable, detailed facts. Newspapers cover current events. Websites are quick but need checking. Experts share real firsthand knowledge.

Which source would you use? Write your answer.

2 Read Two Sources
📖 Read these two source texts about the ancient Olympic Games. Look for information in each one.
Source 1: Encyclopedia Entry
The ancient Olympic Games began in Greece around 776 BCE and were held every four years in the city of Olympia to honor the god Zeus. Only free men could compete, and events included running, wrestling, and chariot racing across several days of competition. Winners received a wreath made of olive branches instead of medals, along with great honor back in their home city. The modern Olympics began in 1896 in Athens and now include thousands of athletes representing countries from around the world.
Source 2: Interview with Olympic Coach Renata Silva
"Spectators rarely think about how years of daily practice lead up to just a few seconds on the track. I've coached runners for more than a decade, and watching one of them earn a bronze medal is still the proudest moment of my career. Big goals like the Olympics push kids to work harder than they ever imagined they could."
