1 Understanding Fractions

🍕 A fraction shows PART of a whole. The top number (numerator) is how many parts you have. The bottom number (denominator) is how many EQUAL parts the whole is split into.

½ = 1 out of 2 equal parts

⅓ = 1 out of 3 equal parts

¼ = 1 out of 4 equal parts

2 Fractions in Real Life

5 Equivalent Fractions (Grade 4 Skill)

Two fractions are equivalent if they name the same amount. Multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number to find an equivalent fraction.

Example: 1/2 = ?/6 → Multiply top and bottom by 3 → 1/2 = 3/6

1/3 = /6

2/4 = /8

1/4 = /12

3/5 = /10

Compare: Is 2/3 greater than, less than, or equal to 4/6? Explain how you know.

6 SBA Practice: Multi-Step Problem

These problems have more than one step, just like the state test. Show ALL your work and explain your method.
